Born
in Monterrey, Mexico, Jaime began to play guitar at an early age before
moving to drum set and piano. He will be graduating from the Ohio State
University at the end of spring quarter 2009, receiving two Bachelor of
Music Degrees. He will further his education with a Master of Music at
the same institution.
Jaime studied percussion and saxophone at the “Escuela Superior de Musica y Danza de Monterrey” under the guidance of Bryan Rouse (USA), Abercio Benitez (Mexico) and Noel Savon (Cuba) where he received a full-tuition scholarship. At the Ohio State University, he has studied with great musicians such as Dr. Susan Powell, Joe Krygier, Mark Flugge, Dr. Marc Ainger and Dr. Gregory Proctor. Due to this mixture of influences, Jaime performs in many different styles of music such as: Jazz, Classical, Contemporary, Rock and Latin. His group experience comes from playing with anywhere from orchestras to pop groups. Jaime began his solo career playing the “Concerto for Marimba and Orchestra” by Ney Rosauro, as a soloist accompanied by the “Orquesta del Tecnológico de Monterrey”, where he also studied Mechatronics (Engineer). Jaime was also recently invited to record with the “Orquesta de la Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon,” the State’s Orchestra.
Jaime has participated in many percussion festivals where he has had the opportunity to learn and share from today’s percussion masters such as Nebojsa Zivkovic, Ted Piltzecker, and Horacio Hernandez. He has appeared in musicals such as Anything Goes and Evita and has opened for piano virtuoso, Danilo Perez. Composing music is also another activity Jaime does constantly. His music writing ranges from Classical, to Jazz and even Pop Music. His pieces have already been played by many groups such as the Ohio State University’s Jazz Ensemble. Jaime began teaching music 4 years ago for both, public and private schools and is now serving Epitelo Music Academy.
Jaime teaches: Saxophone, Percussion, Piano, Guitar, and General Music. He also speaks fluent Spanish, for any students for whom that is a primary language.
